Strawberry Thief
In 1881, English artist and designer William Morris watched a thrush steal a strawberry from his garden and fly away with it. This little scene, full of natural charm, drama and mystery, inspired him to create Strawberry Thief. For well over a century, this beautiful design has captured people's imaginations, appearing on wallpaper and fabrics in homes around the world. This quintessentially English style simply never goes out of fashion. William Morris (1834–1896) was an influential English designer and utopian thinker. In response to industrialisation, he became a passionate advocate of craftsmanship and traditional methods of production. He placed great value on work done by hand, and his sketches and drawings can still be found in the Morris & Co. archives in London. He also believed that applied art should be accessible to everyone. Unfortunately, many of his handcrafted products were beyond the means of ordinary people, and most of his customers came from the wealthier classes of the day. We like to think William Morris would have been pleased to see his design on a practical, affordable Storage Box.
